Recycled Water Fill Station
The West Basin Municipal Water District offers free recycled water to all residential customers in the service area through the Recycled Water Fill Station during drought periods and dry months of the year.
When the fill station is open, anyone in the West Basin service area is welcome to bring water containers to the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility and fill up with recycled water, free of charge.
Recycled water is the most reliable and sustainable form of water and contributes to conservation by offsetting the demand for drinking water. The fill station pumps water from the treatment facility and delivers it directly to you for approved landscaping purposes.
The fill station is currently closed and will resume open hours during dry seasonal months and drought periods when this resource is needed.
Facility Location
The Recycled Water Fill Station is located at the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility
1935 S. Hughes Way in El Segundo, California.
Days & Hours of Operation
Who is Eligible?
All residential customers in the West Basin service area are welcome to participate in this free service. No appointment is needed, just drive up to the facility and follow the purple signs directing you to the recycled water fill station located near the right side parking lot at the entrance.
The Process
On your first visit, and prior to filling up, you must bring a printed and signed User Application and Agreement and turn it in to West Basin’s staff, along with a recent utility bill or photo identification with residential address to confirm you live within West Basin’s service area and are eligible for the program.
The attendant will provide stickers to place on your containers indicating that the containers have been approved for recycled water use.
For subsequent visits, the attendant will check your identification and verify that your container features the appropriate sticker. You may also pick up additional stickers for containers you bring on subsequent visits.
All customers must take the Recycled Water Fill Station training provided by West Basin. Training is free and will be conducted at the fill station when you visit.
Recycled water will not be provided for commercial uses.
Recycled Water Containers
Customers may pick up a maximum of 300 gallons per visit. Containers must be leak-free and feature a water-tight lid. There is no limit to the number of visits a customer can make.
Please note that water is heavy! One gallon of water weighs over 8 pounds, with 100 gallons weighing 835 pounds. When driving a vehicle with such heavy weight, be sure to allow enough stopping distance. Ensure your vehicle can handle the amount of recycled water you collect and transport. Your containers must be secured for safe transport.
Instructional Training Video
This training video serves as an instructional guide for what to expect upon arrival. An onsite attendant will provide training for each customer individually prior to filling your recycled water container.
Do Not Connect to Irrigation Systems
For health and safety reasons tanks, pumps, hoses, and other equipment containing recycled water must not be connected to a dedicated irrigation system, even if that system is disconnected from your drinking water system. We do not want you or your neighbors to end up drinking recycled water due to an illegal interconnection between the drinking water supply and recycled water supply. Any such connection violates California drinking water regulations and West Basin’s User Application and Agreement. Violators may be subject to loss of fill station privileges, fines and other penalties. Please contact West Basin if you have questions about appropriate methods of storing and using recycled water.
