What We Do

The West Basin Municipal Water District mission is to provide a safe and reliable supply of high-quality water to the communities we serve.

As part of West Basin’s mission to provide a safe and reliable supply of high-quality water to our service area we:

Wholesale imported water purchased from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to nearly one million people in 17 cities and unincorporated areas in Los Angeles County through our retailers.

Produce recycled water, taking twice-cleaned wastewater purchased from the City of Los Angeles' Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant and further cleaning the source water to meet customer needs. We provide our recycled water to municipal, commercial and industrial customers.

Offer water use efficiency programs to help residents and businesses use water wisely and save money. Such programs include:

Educate and drive awareness of local, national and global water issues through our community relations and free water education programs for the general public and local students.

Water for Tomorrow

Southern California’s water supply comes from a variety of sources, including Northern California and the Colorado River. This imported water is affected by unpredictable ebbs and flows in supply due to recurring droughts, environmental regulatory decisions, uncertain impacts of climate change and other factors.

Imported Water

The Water for Tomorrow Program is West Basin’s approach to addressing the service area’s water future by:

  • Protecting the District’s existing water supply
  • Diversifying and augmenting the supply portfolio
  • Innovating to prepare for the future

West Basin is a demonstrated industry leader that continues to explore new methods and technologies to manage and enhance its water supply. Aligning with West Basin’s mission to provide a safe and reliable supply of high-quality water to the communities it serves, the agency seeks to increase the reliability of imported water, continue its conservation initiatives, grow opportunities for groundwater projects and advance both potable and non-potable water reuse.
