Water Harvest Festival Brings Community Fun to El Segundo

Post Date:08/15/2024

Free water education event includes giveaways, food and activities for the whole family

The West Basin Municipal Water District will host its annual Water Harvest festival on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility (ECLWRF) in El Segundo, Calif. This free, family-friendly event features interactive learning opportunities and entertainment focused on making water sustainability and conservation a way of life for Californians.

Water Harvest provides an engaging experience for District residents of all ages, including water-education activities, prize drawings and giveaways, free food, stage shows, vendor booths, a kids' costume contest, and more. This year’s nostalgic '90s theme marks the 25th anniversary of the Water Harvest event. Since its inception in 1998, the festival has drawn more than 25,000 guests, encouraging a water-wise lifestyle and environmental stewardship.

“This event is West Basin’s way of connecting with our communities and sharing the importance of water conservation to inspire families to take action in their own lives,” said West Basin Board President Desi Alvarez. “We’re grateful to host such an impactful event that continues to empower new generations to value sustainable practices and have fun along the way.”

Throughout the event, West Basin operations staff and engineers will lead group tours of the ECLWRF, which produces about 40 million gallons of recycled water each day. Attendees will get an up-close look at how recycled water is cleaned while learning about how it serves as the most reliable and sustainable form of water for the planet.

The Water Harvest festival will take place outside of the ECLWRF, located at 1935 S. Hughes Way in El Segundo. Free parking and shuttle service to the event will be available nearby.
